Its been almost a year since our beloved Uncle Dave left us, and almost a year since the last of that wonderful generation of kids left this earth for their

"Heavenly Home". There are so many stories, so many wonderful, heart filled-memories of our rich heritage, and such precious family memories that I

could never possibly hope to share them all here on this limited space.

I have such vivid recollections of the family homesteads in Hickory and Lenoir, and the times we explored every nook and cranny of Grandad's homestead and the surrounding land.

The intricate, hand-‐carved birdhouses granddad made, and his earthen floor

greenhouse with the small furniture business above it... here's to the greatest joy of

treasuring the sights, sounds and smells of each of these, as some of my strongest

recollections of childhood. It was a child's "haven" - a veritable treasure trove of

a bygone era where life was simpler, and kids were free to roam the countryside

in search of adventure, exploration and sometimes, a whole lot of trouble.

Dedicated to my wonderful Grandpa, and to his son, John - the greatest of my "heroes",

and the 'keepers of the family torch' that has passed from generations long gone,

and now to me.
